Training and Consultancy

Rainer is an established provider of training and consultancy services to both the voluntary and statutory sector.  Rainer can both develop and adapt programmes according to the identified need of the external provider.

To date we have worked with the following organisations:

  • Westminster Appropriate Adult service
  • Northumbria Probation - mentoring for adult offenders
  • Business in the Community - training employee volunteers for job coaching roles
  • Youth Justice Board - national programme of bail and remand training
  • Peer Mentoring for youth based providers

Accredited Programmes for Volunteers

We currently offer accredited programmes for volunteers undertaking roles including:

  • Mentoring and Peer Mentoring
  • The role of the Appropriate Adult at the police station
  • Peer Education

These programmes are accredited by the Edexcel Foundation and are currently being delivered by a range of external providers including:

  • Wigan Youth Offending Team
  • The NOVAS Foundation in Liverpool
  • Tower Hamlets Youth Offending Team

Rainer works closely with external service providers to ensure that the programmes/training meet their needs.  Materials can be tailored and new materials developed to better suit the needs of the service.  Further information and learning outcomes for all programmes are available from the Volunteer Unit including costings for a range of options.

Rainer has developed a range of publications to complement the volunteer based programmes and the following are available for purchase:

Appropriate Adult Training Manual

This manual was developed to prepare volunteers to undertake the role of the appropriate adult at the police station in line with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.  It is an 'off the shelf' resource containing 20 hours of training material based on experiential and participative learning.  The manual covers the range of knowledge and skills including:

  • Legislation presentations
  • Communication skills exercises
  • Case studies
  • Outlines for guest speakers.

Mentoring in Context Training Manual 

This manual was developed to prepare volunteers for working 1:1 with young people in community settings.  It is an 'off the shelf' resource containing 21 hours of training material based on experiential and participative learning.  The manual covers the generic knowledge and skills required for the mentoring role including: boundaries, communication skills, case studies and health and safety.  In addition, there are context modules relating to young people's settings that can be purchased, these provide a further 9 hours of training each.  Currently available are:

  • Education and Training
  • Leaving Care
  • Criminal Justice
  • Girls and Young Women
  • Refugees and Asylum Seekers
  • Substance Abuse
  • Resettlement

Context options can also be developed on the basis of need for each provider.
