I have stability and I am re-building my life; I have a sense of purpose in my life again.

Service User Recruitment Panel

"I am a 22 year old white male service user with Rainer Leicestershire. I volunteered to be part of the service user recruitment panel in July 2006. On the Friday before the interviews I attended a one-day training course to find out what I needed to know and do. I enjoyed the training, I thought it was good and interesting and would do it again.

On the first recruitment day, which took place the following Tuesday, we interviewed three people for a mentoring post. I was glad to be involved in something and it made me feel good that I was doing something worthwhile. We interviewed three people for the post of support worker the next day and something one of the candidates said make me think: 'I could do this job'; it inspired me to become a support worker."
