Rainer to merge with Crime Concern

23 April 2008

Two leading charities today announced their decision to merge.

Crime Concern and Rainer are to join together to form a major new charity.  Its combined mission will be to promote opportunities for the development, education and support of young people in need to lead purposeful, stable and fulfilled lives and to create safer, inclusive, crime-free communities for the benefit of the public. The new charity will reach some 34,000 young people in more than 150 communities across the country.

Rainer and Crime Concern are both leading organisations in their fields. By combining their complementary expertise they will have an even greater impact on young people, their families and communities and on Government policy.

Joyce Moseley will be the charity's first Chief Executive. The Trustee Board will have seven trustees from Rainer and seven from Crime Concern, with Jim McKenna as Chair and Bridget McIntyre as Treasurer.  The new charity will come into existence on 1 July and will be known as "Rainer Crime Concern" until the formal launch of its new vision, mission, objectives and name towards the end of the year.

Announcing the merger today Lord Hastings, Chair of Crime Concern for 15 years said "This is fantastic news for our Board, our staff, and most of all, for our communities. We've made a tremendous impact over the last twenty years and we are delighted to be joining forces with a great organisation like Rainer."

Elizabeth Filkin, Chair of Rainer said "This is the next great chapter in Rainer's long successful history.  The merger will enable the new charity to reach and support thousands more young people across the country."
