National Care Advisory Service launched

Wednesday 25 June 2008

On April 1st the National Leaving Care Advisory Service and What Makes the Difference Project came together as one service within Rainer.

As part of this coming together, on Wednesday 25th June we are launching the new service under a new name. This is to be the National Care Advisory Service - Making the difference for young people in and from care age 13-25.

At the same time the service has grown as a result of an increased grant from the DCSF and the WMTD products and services we have been able to continue.

This new name reflects the fact that whilst the majority of our work will remain related to young people over 16 it is important that we reflect in the name that our concerns are with young people in care from 13 upwards who will be preparing for the transition to adulthood.

Our new mission statement is:

The National Care Advisory Service (NCAS) is the national advice, support and development service for children in and from care (age 13-25) and those who work with them.

NCAS works at local, regional, national and EU levels to develop solutions based on good corporate parenting that include and empower young people, professionals and policy-makers to continually improve service quality and outcomes.

It aims to provide opportunities, new experiences and skills development for young people.

The National Care Advisory Service is supported by Rainer, the national charity for undersupported young people.

Our aims will be:

  • To promote improvement in outcomes for older children in care and care leavers by supporting work at a national, regional and local levels.
  • To support the specific implementation of the Care Matters agenda across the country.
  • To support local authorities to empower young people to be fully involved in the design, development and delivery of successful services.
